The Faculty of Geoinformation & Environment hosted Doz. Dr. Jaroslav Burian, Deputy Head of Dept. of Geoinformatics at the Palacky University, Olomouc, CZ (English | Department of Geoinformatics (upol.cz)).  Doz.Dr. Burian’s focus is on application of geoinformatics (GIS) technologies in urban and spatial planning. He has developed “Urban Planner”, a GIS-application that has been used by numerous Czech cities to aid and improve their development strategies.

The CUAS students received a first-hand insight to this application and also attended a workshop on spatial multicriteria analysis. Doz.Dr. Burian had numerous discussions with GeoIT faculty and CUAS IRO on teaching geoinformatics, curriculum design and implementation as well as research activities. The focus was on continuing cooperation through intensifying student and faculty exchange and possible research cooperation, especially in the field of GeoAI and eye tracking. This visit is a part of the Erasmus exchange, the cooperation our institutions have established six years ago. During that time four MSc and PhD students, and four faculty visited Campus Villach.
