Project results show the importance and the possibilities of new technologies for recording and identifying species.

The BioMONITec research project is entering its second year. Our interdisciplinary team is researching how to create a ‘digital twin’ forest, how to use artificial intelligence to determine species or how to use genetic methods (barcoding, eDNA) to determine aquatic life or fungi. The possibilities and limits of these technologies are becoming apparent. Together with very different partners, the results are discussed and critically scrutinised. In any case, the team has an exciting summer ahead of them. The current state of knowledge is available in a recent publication: https://cdn.intechopen.com/pdfs/78656.pdf
