The students will learn advanced skills allowing them to assay the sensor - process interactions and build and implement real-world operable sensor systems fulfilling their set task. This will involve:
- Device and Data Reliability
- Sensor housing: making a sensor compatible with the process enviroment
- solution strategies for the stress field process requirements / process control / sensor properties / economic considerations

Like all process monitoring systems, sensors live and die in a stress-field between process requirements and conditions (media properties, cleaning, etc.), process control requirements (time and data resolution, multi-parameter and interference detection, ...), the abilities, characteristics and limitations of the sensor(s) used, and the investment and operation costs. Usually, a carefully optimised compromise has to be found. This course will deal with a summary of the effects to be taken into account and present different strategies on how to tackle the system optimisation task
