On successful completion of this course the students will:

understand the principles and foundations of supply chain management;
discuss competitive strategies and their impacts on the supply chain;
get an understanding about interdependencies of global supply chain networks;
learn about supplier selection and the role of supply management in an organization;
discuss possibilities for and importance of supplier relationship management and supplier development;
have an overview about strategic sourcing possibilities, specifically ethical, sustainable supply chain management;
get an idea about global location selection and development of locations as well as evaluating insourcing and outsourcing in a global supply chain;
get an idea about specific collaboration models within supply chains, specifically CPFR, ECR, QR-Programs;
discuss IT-involvement and advantages (ERP, APS, MRP etc.);
have a good overview about inventory models and inventory management within supply chains;
discuss process management issues for supply chains, like Just-in-Time and quality aspects (TQM);
get an overview about the literature and specific topics around supply chain management;
understand the prerequisites for a global supply chain design;
define an example in a class work using a supply chain software tool;
prepare term papers and presentations that will be part of the final grading.
