As part of the course Intercultural Competence, master’s students in Health Management (class of 2024/25) took part in an excursion to Udine and Ljubljana in December. The aim was to gain insights into different healthcare systems, with a particular focus on community health, prevention, interprofessional collaboration and technological innovation.

In Udine, the students visited a community-based mental health center without inpatient psychiatric care and attended a lecture at the University of Udine, where they learned about the role and education of community nurses in Italy. In Ljubljana, the program included meetings at the Ministry of Health, a visit to the Community Health Centre with expanded nursing roles, a state-of-the-art simulation center, and the Jožef Stefan Institute, which presented research on the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. The excursion was complemented by a visit to the Austrian Embassy.

Overall, the excursion highlighted the importance of prevention, community-oriented care, interprofessional cooperation and digital innovation, offering valuable impulses for the further development of healthcare systems across Europe.
