The Carinthia University of Applied Sciences has published a policy brief on the Interreg Italy–Austria project INDIALPS, an initiative dedicated to fostering innovative and sustainable tourism in the Alpe–Adria region. Bringing together Dobratsch Nature Park, Prealpi Giulie Nature Park, and Triglav National Park, the project promotes cross-border cooperation to balance tourism flows while preserving the natural and cultural heritage of these unique landscapes.

The policy brief presents key results from a multi-method visitor monitoring approach implemented in Dobratsch Nature Park. It demonstrates how data collected through visitor counting technologies, outdoor and fitness apps, and surveys can support science-based management decisions, helping to address challenges such as overcrowding and uneven tourism distribution.

Based on this analysis, a set of recommendations for visitor monitoring, guidance, and management has been developed. These emphasize the importance of continuous, long-term monitoring as well as strengthened cross-border cooperation practices.
