Students of the Master’s degree program in International Business Management at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CU) recently had the opportunity to welcome Dr. Daniel Schützenauer, Managing Director of Sico Technology, part of the Wietersdorfer Group, for an inspiring guest lecture.

Drawing on his extensive managerial experience, Dr. Schützenauer offered valuable insights into his professional career and the realities of leading an internationally active industrial company. He discussed strategic management at both the business and corporate levels, highlighting how sound strategic decisions, effective leadership and the people behind them shape the development and long-term success of companies and business portfolios.

A particular focus was placed on mergers and acquisitions and the factors that contribute to successful acquisitions, from identifying suitable opportunities and evaluating strategic fit to integrating new businesses into an established corporate structure. Dr. Schützenauer also illustrated how diversification can strengthen a company’s portfolio, open up new growth opportunities and increase resilience in a changing economic environment.

The lecture provided students with a first-hand perspective on the leadership of a successful industrial group with strong roots in the region and an international outlook. Throughout the session, students were invited to reflect on practical managerial challenges, consider alternative courses of action and connect the concepts discussed in their studies with real-world business decisions.

The guest lecture offered an excellent combination of personal exchange with an experienced top manager, valuable industry insights and thought-provoking strategic challenges. We sincerely thank Dr. Daniel Schützenauer for sharing his experience and engaging in an open and insightful dialogue with our students.
