Clinical Psychology & Health Psychology - Master Course

The FH Master's program "Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology" is offered in cooperation with the Austrian Academy of Psychology (AAP).

 

Requirements

All requirements for obtaining the professional qualification are provided by the AAP as a provider recognized by the BMGF. The framework for obtaining the academic degree is provided by the FH Kärnten.

The cooperation between the FH Kärnten and the AAP makes it possible to combine the professional training as a clinical psychologist or health psychologist with an academic master's degree ("Master of Science" - "MSc").

Upgrade

The 2-semester upgrade to MSc is designed for:

...who have passed the registration in the professional list according to the Psychologists Act 1990 ("old training regulations")
Services to be provided:
  • Completion of the advanced module Clinical Psychology or the advanced module
    Health Psychology (8 ECTS - 120 units attendance time)
  • Proof of practical experience from clinical psychology or
    health psychology (25 ECTS - 625 hours)
  • Proof of supervision or self-awareness (total 3 ECTS - 75 hours)
Master module - included:
  • Seminar "Writing Workshop" (2 ECTS, 30 units attendance time)
  • Seminar "Research Methodology" (2 ECTS, 30 units attendance time)
  • Preparation of the master thesis (theoretical part plus 2 case studies from practice)
  • Master's examination
... are in professional, postgraduate training and have already completed significant parts of it

Credits are given individually according to the level of training.

 

Costs for the 2-semester upgrade program (MSc)

€ 4.890,- (VAT-free). These are to be paid in 2 semester installments of € 2.445,- each (plus € 550,- in costs for the final commission examination of the professional law part, if required). In addition, the ÖH fee (currently € 21.20) must be paid per enrolled semester.

Goals & Requirements

Specialized knowledge and skills are required to work in clinical psychology and health psychology, which will be taught in this master's program. One can choose one of two paths: (1) Clinical Psychology or (2) Health Psychology. The completion of the master's program qualifies graduates* according to §6 Abs1-3 Psychologists Act 2013 for independent professional practice.

In addition to the possible completion of the professional training, the aim of the FH Master's program is also the scientific examination of a wide range of topics in clinical psychology and health psychology.

Completion modalities: 
A master's thesis must be written as part of the FH master's program. The UAS course is completed by a final examination before a commission, which consists of the presentation and defense of the master's thesis as well as a subject examination.  The positive completion entitles to the academic degree "Master of Science" (M.Sc.).

Organization & Dates

The FH Master course comprises 4 semesters and is organized on a part-time basis. The attendance phases take place on average 7 times per semester from Friday 2:00 p.m. to Saturday 6:00 p.m. at the Jugend- & Familiengästehaus Klagenfurt (Klagenfurt University Quarter - Neckheimgasse 6, 9020 Klagenfurt am Wörthersee) and/or the premises of the AAP in Vienna. This enables the combination of study and work.

    • Proof of completion of a degree in psychology of at least 300 ECTS from the EU or Switzerland or
    • a degree in psychology from Austria as "Mag. phil." or "Mag.rer.nat or
    • the doctorate of philosophy with psychology as the first subject (StGBl. Nr. 165/1945) or
    • a degree in psychology from a foreign EU country that has been nostrified in Austria.
