Basic Life Support Course
Every minute of delay in treating cardiac arrest reduces the chances of survival until hospital discharge by 10–12 percent. With an adequate response, the chance of survival following defibrillation within the first three to five minutes is 50–70 percent. The Basic Life Support course forms the foundation for effective and efficient treatment of patients in cardiac arrest.
The ERC BLS Provider Course teaches all essential skills within two to four hours, including how to recognize cardiac arrest, perform effective chest compressions, use automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and ventilate using appropriate aids. Additionally, the course covers how to respond to acute airway obstruction and how to apply the recovery position. The course is specifically aimed at employees of Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, as they are in daily contact with a large number of people (ERC, 2024, n.p.).
Preparation and Learning Outcome Assessment
Participants receive a link to the ERC learning platform, called CoSy. An account must be completed and confirmed there. Afterward, access to the virtual learning platform is granted. Upon successful completion, participants receive an internationally recognized ERC certificate, valid for three years.
To maintain the validity of the provider certificate, a recertification course must be completed.
