In April 2025, Pascal Nicolay will take over as Head of Research & Development in the Engineering & IT department at the University of Applied Sciences Carinthia. An experienced researcher and innovative thinker will thus be entrusted with this central role.

Pascal Nicolay has been working at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences since 2019 - he was appointed as an endowed professor at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and established the Carinthia Institute for Smart Materials (CiSMAT for short) research center. He is regarded as a visionary thought leader in the education and research landscape, with a particular focus on combining research, teaching and practice.

His goals include strengthening interdisciplinarity, expanding networking between research, teaching and industry, and making R&D processes more dynamic. It is particularly important to him that all disciplines work together and pursue a common goal.

“As the new Head of R&D in the institute of Engineering & IT, I will focus on optimizing internal processes, while fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and strengthening ties with the industrial sector to accelerate innovation and deliver efficient, high-impact solutions“, says Pascal Nicolay.

About Pascal Nicolay: Born in Metz (France), Nicolay studied theoretical physics, engineering and innovation sciences. His research interests include:

  • Smart Materials
  • Surface Acoustic Wave Sensors
  • Robust R&D and innovation methods

A big THANK YOU goes to Franz Riemelmoser, who very successfully took over the management of research and development for many years and laid a solid foundation for further expansion.
