On November 23rd, 2017, Andrew Simon, a business consultant from the U.S. working for the Dal-las/Fort Worth (Texas) office of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), one of the world’s leading consulting firms, held a guest lecture as part of the course “Mergers and Acquisitions” for the 3rd semester IBM students specializing in International Finance.

Andrew Simon was actively involved in the session by providing feedback on the students’ presentations about international mergers and acquisitions (for example Coca Cola – Innocent, American Airlines – US Airways). The students had the chance to discuss their selected cases as well as to get advice on how to give convincing presentations to a management board or group of investors.

Furthermore, he provided valuable insights into his academic and professional career: After studying in the U.S. and Malaysia, Mr Simon was working for leading international consulting companies like Accenture, Ernst & Young, and The Boston Consulting Group. Currently, he is responsible for leading integration processes and organizing work stream activities in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) of global corporations. Andrew Simon provided insights into challenges that can arise in M&A integration processes and how a neutral business consultant can help to overcome these challenges.

The students had the opportunity to ask questions about his international experiences in the consulting business and got many useful tips for their own future business career. It was a great pleasure to welcome such a highly interesting guest speaker from the U.S. here at our University of Applied Sciences in Villach.
