The combination of the two fields of interest geography and computer science led Anna Staber to the decision to study "Geoinformation" at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences.

 

Anna Staber from Ferndorf programmed websites at a young age for fun. The combination of the two fields of interest geography and computer science led her to the decision to study "Geoinformation" at the CUAS.

After graduating in 2005, Anna Staber worked in a consulting firm for urban, spatial and transport planning in Vienna. "But I wanted to see more of the world and at a job fair I had a conversation with Schlumberger, an international oil service company. First I went for the interview to Paris and Reading near London, where I worked for four and a half years before being transferred to Kuwait in the Middle East," she says about her international work experience.

There Anna Staber started as a Data Management Engineer and developed as an Information Management Consultant up to team leader. After moving to a local oil company in Kuwait and a total of five years in the Middle East, it was time for her to take the next step. "In addition to my full-time job, I also completed an MBA at the University of Manchester via the Dubai branch from 2014 to 2016, including workshops in Miami and Shanghai. Afterwards I moved to Germany for the position as Customer Engineer for Google Maps.

Here I now support customers in the automotive industry in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and the American region," she says of her current professional position. She discovered her interest in internationality mainly during her studies: "At first I was very attached to my home country, but although I was based in Villach, we were fortunate to have guest speakers from renowned universities such as MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) or from Australia or Great Britain. And because of the project work or internship semesters, the programme was very applied and versatile. During her studies, she found the intensive supervision and cooperation with the professors particularly positive: "Above all, the deep subject matter of programming and mathematics is not always easy, but joint study groups with other students or even consultation hours with the professors help insanely. It is important not to lose passion and motivation. And one is all the happier when one finally understands the algorithm or can solve various higher algebra formulas oneself".
