Students are able to search for literature in a targeted and efficient manner and to document, systematize and present the research accordingly. They can develop a question and derive appropriate hypotheses. Various techniques of reading, understanding and preparing scientific texts, various forms of scientific publications and their contribution to gaining insights are known to them. They are qualified to critically review sources (focus on the internet), are familiar with the usual citation rules and able to implement them correctly.

  • Literature research, presentation and demonstration of relevant databases (Pubmed, PsycInfo, Science Direct), search strategies, documentation (literature management programs) and presentation
  • Possibilities for processing and cataloguing literature
  • Development of a question / hypothesis and evaluation of research ideas according to scientific (operationalization) and ethical criteria (ethics guidelines)
  • Structure of scientific texts
  • Introduction of reading techniques ("fast reading") as well as reflection on the own reading style, dealing with English texts
  • Presentation of different types of publications (technical dictionaries, manuals, meta-analyzes, reviews ...) and their significance for gaining scientific knowledge
  • Criteria for assessing the quality of publications (excursus: impact factor, publication bias), especially with regard to online sources
  • Citation rules, formal requirements
