Upon the successful completion of the Language Immersion Course German (DaF) 2, students will acquire the following competencies regarding the German language:
• job-related topics:
o speak about jobs (ideal or real ones)
o describe daily professional routine
o understand texts about other's daily professional routine
o write simple e-mails to university
• city excursion/city trip:
o navigation in the town: asking for/giving directions
o understand a bus timetable / town map
o understand a travel program
o understand a town guided tour
o write a postcard
• past events and holidays:
o report about an event in the past
o talk about holidays
o describe an accident
o understand descriptions from statistics
• food and drinks:
o shop for groceries (supermarket, market, ...), ask about the price
o talk about food, preferences
o understand a survey about eating habits
o compare foods
o understand and explain a recipe
• clothes and the weather:
o purchase clothes (color, size, ...)
o talk about fashion and preferences
o understand a weather report
o talk about the weather
• body and health:
o name the parts of the body
o talk about illnesses
o describe symptoms at the doctor's
o give recommendations and instructions
o talk about feelings
• education, school, university
o talk about individual language learning processes
o understand general statements about education and university studies
o make comparisons
o describe a graph
o express one's opinion

This is a language course for slightly advanced students with basic knowledge of German (at CEF level A1-A2). The following language topics will be covered in this module:

  • Vocabulary related to job-related topics, making a city excursion, holidays, foods and drinks, clothes, the weather, body and health, and education
  • Modal verbs: "müssen", "können"
  • Possessive article in 4th case
  • Negation with "kein-" in 4th case
  • Prepositions in 4th case: "in", "durch", "über"
  • Prepositions in 3rd case: "zu", "an ... vorbei"
  • Modal verbs: "wollen"
  • Perfect tense: regular verbs with "haben", irregular verbs with "sein"
  • Terms of frequency: "jeden Tag", "immer", "oft", "manchmal", "selten", "nie"
  • Questions word: "welch-"
  • Comparison: "viel", "gut", "gern"
  • Adjectives in 4th case: indefinite article
  • Demonstrative article: "dies-"
  • "Es" for the weather
  • Imperative
  • Modal verbs: "dürfen", "sollen"
  • Personal pronouns in 4th case
  • freewriting of named topics
  • genres of academic texts
