On successful completion of the course, students:

  • can calculate with matrices and use them as a tool to solve systems of linear equations.
  • understand models of linear optimization and can solve them graphically.
  • can use series and sequences in financial mathematics problems.
  • can calculate simple interest and compound interest.
  • understand the concepts of net present value and present value and can apply them mathematically to pensions.
  • can derive mathematical functions and solve extreme value problems.

The course will cover the following topics/content:

  • Basics matrices, linear optimisation, exercises on matrices and linear optimisation
  • Introduction to sequences and series (arithmetic, geometric), financial mathematics - linear interest, compound interest;
  • Exercises on financial mathematics, financial mathematics - pension calculation; exercises on pension calculation;
  • Exercises on pension calculation;
  • Differential calculus (difference-, differential quotient, derivation rules, curve discussion), exercises on differential calculus;
  • Differential calculus - Applications in the economic sector
  • Exercises on differential calculus
