On successful completion of the course, students:
- can calculate with matrices and use them as a tool to solve systems of linear equations.
- understand models of linear optimization and can solve them graphically.
- can use series and sequences in financial mathematics problems.
- can calculate simple interest and compound interest.
- understand the concepts of net present value and present value and can apply them mathematically to pensions.
- can derive mathematical functions and solve extreme value problems.
The course will cover the following topics/content:
- Basics matrices, linear optimisation, exercises on matrices and linear optimisation
- Introduction to sequences and series (arithmetic, geometric), financial mathematics - linear interest, compound interest;
- Exercises on financial mathematics, financial mathematics - pension calculation; exercises on pension calculation;
- Exercises on pension calculation;
- Differential calculus (difference-, differential quotient, derivation rules, curve discussion), exercises on differential calculus;
- Differential calculus - Applications in the economic sector
- Exercises on differential calculus
