After successful completion of the course, students:

  • Are able to write an Academic Abstract in English
  • Read and summarize academic texts critically
  • Understand the differences between various text forms
  • Summarize, paraphrase, and synthesize textual information from several specialized texts in their field and incorporate it correctly and appropriately into their own texts according to academic standards and (citation) guidelines

In the course "English: Academic Writing" the following topics/contents are covered:

  • The academic abstract
  • Summary writing, paraphrasing, citation
  • The argumentative (5-paragraph) Essay
  • Critical reading and writing

Academic English Reading List:
Authentic materials will be provided by the lecturer and made available and adapted to student needs.
