Course Contents: The lecture shows how 3d acquisition and processing algorithms are used for practical applications. In this course methods to acquire and reconstruct the threedimensional world are presented and dicussed on the example of existing applications. All major algorithms like Shape from Monocular Images, Shape from Stereo, Shape from structured Light und Motion, to represent the 3d-world in the computer are presented theoretically and shown in the lab practically. Furthermore for every 3d-acquisition strategy an industrial application is shown. In addition Labexercises will allow to scan and reconstruct a real 3d object using 3d algorithms. Topics covered:

    • Introduction into 3D Computer Vision and Robot Vision
    • General Purpose Computer Vision
    • Image Acquisition (Eye, lenses, cameras, vanishing points, imaging geometry, radiometry, resolution, sampling theorem, cameras, color)
    • Camera Calibration (external, internal parameters, calibration strategy, Tsai, Tsang)
    • Range Scanner (Time of Flight Scanners, Laser Radar, Ultrasonic, Infrared, Interferometry, Structured Light Scanners, Phase Shift, Gray Code, Color Code)
    • Shape from Shading (Reflectance Map, Photometric Stereo, Polarized Light).
    • Shape from Texture (Statistical methods, structural methods)
    • Shape from Geometry
    • Shape from Stereo (Geometry, Epipolar geometry, Correspondence problem, intensity based stereo, feature based stereo, Active stereo, Essential Matrix, Fundamental Matrix)
    • Shape from Focus / Defocus
    • Shape from Motion (FOE, FOC, Motion field, Motion field Analysis, Analytical formulation)
