On successful completion of the course, students:

  • have gained both practical and theoretical knowledge and understanding of intercultural teamwork
  • have developed awareness of and reflected upon their own and other cultural values
  • understand the role cultural dimensions play in intercultural team communication
  • can apply flexible communicator skills
  • can recognize interculturally (in)competent behavior
  • can analyse and reflect on intercultural teamwork situations and apply strategies to resolve issues of conflict and misunderstanding
  • demonstrate an open attitude and curiosity
  • have developed skills to effectively lead intercultural teams

The course will cover the following topics/content:

  • What is intercultural teamwork?
  • How do cultural differences impact team interaction?
  • The challenges and opportunities presented by intercultural teamwork
  • Dealing with misunderstandings and conflict in intercultural teams: the importance of communication
  • Leading intercultural teams
  • Constructivist foundations of intercultural communication;
  • Knowledge paradigms; intercultural consciousness and perceptual agility;
  • Intercultural principles and observational frames; communication styles;
  • Developing intercultural competence - the Developmental Model of intercultural Sensitivity

  • Individual digital stories (30 %)
  • Group (virtual) presentation (20 %)
  • Written reflection paper based on the Development Model of Intercultural Management (20 %)
