As part of the module "Urban and Regional Development", students acquire an in-depth knowledge in the management and marketing of (economic) sites, based on the objectives, planning methods and instruments of development of cities (including downtown and neighborhood development) and regions and the economic determinants of the different distribution of economic activities in the region (including the related thereto influences of increasing economic globalization).

The focus is on the spatial dimension of economic action. It should be (eg Neoclassical theory of regional development, polarization theories, New Economic Geography, Endogenous growth theory) are presented and discussed critically on the one hand the basic approaches of the city economics (eg economic location theory, land use theories, theories of central places, etc.) as well as the regional economics. Secondly, the results from these approaches, policy implications for local and regional economic development are considered in more detail. The latter unit focuses on an examination of different explanations of local and regional economic policy, the representation of targets, sources and instruments of both policy fields.
