The theoretical and technical training shall be balanced and coordinated with the clinical training in such a way that the knowledge and experience gained so far may be acquired in an adequate manner.
The students theoretically know about structures in hospital, work flow and practical tasks of midwives during labour, delivery and post partum.
Clinical instruction shall take the form of supervised in-service training in hospital departments or other health services approved by the competent authorities or bodies. As part of this training, student midwives shall participate in the activities of the departments concerned in so far as those activities contribute to their training. Under supervision students shall take basic diagnostic and nursing measures. Also they may be engaged in direct patient care like supporting patients as well as monitoring patients.They shall be taught the responsibilities involved in the activities of midwives. The practical and clinical training is to be dispensed under appropriate supervision. (according to European Union Standards

During the second internship students shall implement and continuously strengthen their gained knowledge based on courses and clinical experience. The focus for the second internship is patient-oriented care during pregnancy, delivery, monitoring of mother and child and post partum care. This internship students shall be able to perform internal and external examinations. Basic diagnostic measures like drawing blood work shall be performed by the student. Students also shall be able to interpret continuous fetal monitoring during labor. Appropriate communication, proper documentation and hygienic working is demanded. For the post partum care students shall be able to assist women with breast feeding.
