On successful completion of the course, students:
- Can communicate limited information in simple everyday situations, describe daily work routines, speak about jobs.
- Use simply structures and linkers
- Understand high frequency vocabulary related to areas of most personal relevance (work, study, travel, shopping, weather, health).
- Can exchange information on familiar topics
- Can write personal messages and simple emails to university
- Can read and understand simple texts on related topics
- Can ask for and give directions
- Can report about a past event (holiday, accident, statistics)
The course will cover the following topics/content:
- Vocabulary and phrases related to shopping, local geography, my job, my studies, freetime, transport, giving directions, the weather, clothes, body and health
- Polite forms of greeting and address
- Short social exchanges: Asking how people are and reacting to news
- Asking for and giving directions, travel program, guided city tour
- Writing a postcard
- Statistics, comparison and preferences
- Advertisements, prospectuses, menues, timetables
- Modal verbs: müssen, können, wollen, dürfen, sollen
- Possessive article in 4th case
- Negation with 'kein-' in 4th case
- Prepositions in 4th case: in, durch, über, Prepositions in 3rd case: zu, an ... vorbei
- Perfect tense: regular verbs with 'haben', irregular verbs with 'sein'
- Terms of frequency: jeden Tag, immer, oft, manchmal, selten, nie
- Questions word: welch-
- Comparison: viel, gut, gern
- Adjectives in 4th case: indefinite article, Demonstrative article: 'dies', 'Es' for the weather,
- Personal pronouns in 4th case
- Dative case, especially to talk about location (Wo?) and transport (mit dem Auto)
