Valentin Egger and Christoph Uran, Network & Communication Engineering majors and Communication Engineering master’s students in the Engineering & IT department, attended the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in early March. With nearly 100,000 attendees and almost 2000 exhibitors, the MWC is the world's largest and most important trade fair for mobile communications, 5G and the associated use cases.

As such, this event is the perfect opportunity to network and exchange ideas about the new and future developments in this fast-moving industry. This happened, for example, at the booths of international network equipment suppliers Huawei, Ericsson and Nokia, but also with manufacturers of processors (Intel) and measurement equipment (VIAVI and Rohde & Schwarz). A special highlight was a meeting with our Federal Minister Elisabeth Köstinger - responsible for telecommunications - at the Huawei booth.

At the Mobile World Congress, she also presented the FFG program "Gigabit Triple A" and the "Gigabit Academy", where the UAS research group ROADMAP-5G is a partner via the “5G Playground Carinthia". At the 5G Playground Carinthia, it will be possible for companies and research institutions to test the fifth generation of mobile communications under optimal and configurable conditions and to adapt their applications, products and processes in the best possible way.
