Guest lecture of Gerald Zankl, Director of Business Development at Bitmovin

On November 24th, 2018 CUAS‘ International Business Management master’s students enjoyed a very special guest lecture held by Mr. Gerald Zankl, Business Development Director at Bitmovin, the leading video infrastructure provider.

Bitmovin is a successful start-up that reinvented online video playing. The company provides adaptive streaming infrastructure for video publishers and integrators, which allows playing videos at high quality all over the world. Gerald Zankl joined Bitmovin as the first marketing and sales employee in 2014, built up and led the global sales and marketing team and played a vital part in helping the company grow from less than 10 to more than 120 employees. His work with the industry’s leading broadcasters, system integrators, telcos, and OTT platforms has led to excellent streaming solutions enjoyed by millions of viewers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In his current role as the Director of Business Development EMEA at Bitmovin, he is responsible for sales, business development, and expanding market penetration in the European and Middle East market.

During the lecture, Mr. Zankl gave deep insights into the challenges Bitmovin faced in its first years and how the company managed these difficulties. He also involved the students in the vivid discussion, asked them for their suggestions regarding market entry strategies and answered the numerous questions the students had. Moreover, Mr. Zankl supported the students with practical advice on how to solve the variety of problems start-ups are facing, ranging from market entry to customer acquisition strategies as well as recruiting and leading international teams.
