This semester, freshman students of the master’s program “International Business Management” can prove their entrepreneurial skills in an online simulation game and compete against students from Skidmore College in New York.

The interactive business simulation (IB.sim) is part of the “International Strategic Management” course. So far, it was a board game, developed by FH-Prof. Dr. Dietmar Sternad. The game aims to better understand the relationships of strategic decisions in the course of international business activities. Students form teams in order to act as entrepreneurs on a virtual market. They have to select target markets and market entry strategies, determine the positioning of the company as well as production and sales targets. They can also cooperate with other teams and make price agreements.

The digital version of the game offers the opportunity for the students to better understand the challenges of internationalization and global competition in a practice-oriented, interactive and playful way - despite the current restrictions, that would not have made it possible to play the simulation in class. Dietmar Sternad (FH Kärnten) and James Kennelly (Professor of International Business Management at Skidmore College, New York) support and administrate the course of the game.
