The MINERWA project combines gigabit internet technology with mixed-reality systems to fundamentally transform the way culture is mediated and experienced. This combination enables museum visits independent of geographical boundaries, with the potential to significantly enhance users’ cultural experiences and well-being.

The aim is to increase understanding and appreciation of cultural heritage through the digital mediation of cultural assets, thereby contributing to cultural education and social well-being. The project employs innovative approaches and an interdisciplinary consortium to demonstrate gigabit connectivity as a catalyst for mixed-reality cultural technologies and to explore their effects on well-being.

By analysing users’ interactions and emotional responses in both real and virtual environments, the project seeks to develop a comprehensive understanding of the contribution of culture to quality of life. This integrative approach highlights the importance of combining technological innovation with social science research in order to fully harness the potential of digital cultural mediation in the gigabit society.
