In application domains such as location tracking/management systems,information systems for meteorology, geography or geology time getsmore and more important. This course will introduce principles andfoundations of temporal and spatial databases, including data models,query languages, algebras, and algorithms for selected operators. Thecourse explores spatio-temporal modeling methods from perspectives of database and information-retrieval systems. In lab exercises thestudents will practice their skills by developing a tracking database formoving objects. The main topics of the course will be:- Temporal raster versus temporal vector data- Querying spatio-temporal data- Indexing spatio-temporal data- Algorithms for temporal join and aggregation
