Students will be able to explain standard solutions and basic design approaches for steel- composite construction and define the material-specific and execution-related requirements when designing a structure. They will design typical composite steel components in buildings (such as beams and columns) based on modern design concepts in accordance with current European standards. They will reflect on and compare the different possibilities for structural detailing and execution of composite components with those of pure steel or concrete structures. Through the worked out examples, they will develop an understanding of practical aspects and be able to identify relevant topics in detailing and implementation.
- Fundamentals of steel-concrete composite construction
 - Benefits and main areas of application
 - Determination of internal forces and design bases
 - Design and dimensioning of composite steel beams subjected to bending stresses
 - Conception and design of steel concrete composite columns
 - Arrangement and design of typical composite materials
 - Constructive detail and execution issues
