The students
- can derive an entity-relationship diagram from a problem description, convert it into a relational model and implement it as a database using DDL.
- are able to insert, modify and delete data records using DML and can formulate simple as well as complex queries to the database using SQL.
- understand the basics of a transaction system, have a basic understanding of the roles of users of a database system and can determine the quality of a data model and improve it if necessary
ILV Coding Essentials, 1st semester (3.5 SWS, 5 ECTS Credits)
The module covers the following topics:
- Conceptual database design (ER modeling) with practical exercises
- Design and creation of a relation schema from ER diagram
- Query creation of Select, Update, Delete with the help of SQL
- Practical examples for database creation in a common RDBMS
The following basic literature will be used in the module:

Further relevant literature and online modules will be announced at the beginning of the module, if necessary.
- Lecture to present theoretical content
- Partially multimodal presentation of theoretical content for preparation in the style of a flipped classroom, and collaborative discussions to deepen the theoretical content
- Practical exercises in moderated group and individual work
