Students can apply the basics of materials mechanics for calculation of stress and strain within load bearing beams. They are able to analyze the stress-deformation level within simple structural elements. Further students are capable of dimensioning such structural elements under simple or combined load scenarios and carrying out the Ultimate Limit State Analysis.

Basics of elasticity theory: Condition of stress, status of deformation, Hooke's Law; hypothesis of strength. Beam deflection: Moment of inertia, uniaxial bending, deflection curve, biaxial bending, shearing stress due to shearing force, bending with normal force. Torsion, Dimensioning and Ultimate Limit State Analysis for structure elements.
