Starting in 2017, the certificate course for Nature Conservation Engineer has been offered at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with E.C.O. Institute for Ecology.

In the one-year training programme, an expansive overview of relevant practical nature conservation methods is offered in order to:

- carry out official conservation requirements in construction projects in accordance with the state-of-the-art technologies;

- implement nature conservation projects of associations, initiatives, and municipalities in an appropriate manner; and

- successfully organise nature conservation and species protection measures in the private and public sectors.

There is a need for practically trained nature conservation specialists across a wide range of applied fields, including construction site management and public administration. Planning offices, construction companies, nature conservation institutions, and municipalities also need this specialised expertise.

Currently, the students are finalising their theses, and in February 2022 their work will be published at the conservation specialist certificate award ceremony.
