For all degree programs instructed in German, German language skills at least at B2 level are required if German is not your native language. For some degree programs in the field of health, even C1 level may be required.
For study programs taught in English, German language skills are not required.

How can you prove your language skills? Here you will find a list of accepted certificates or proofs of language proficiency:

    • ÖSD Zertifikat B2 or C1

    • Graduation from a degree programme of at least three years of study with German as language of instruction at a recognised post-secondary educational institution
    • Passing of the supplementary exam in German (Ergänzungsprüfung Deutsch) at a University Preparation Programm of an Austrian university

All applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency at level B2 for all Bachelor and Master Programs (except for International Business Management: C1, Disability & Diversity Studies: A2).
How can you prove your English language proficiency? Here is a list of accepted certificates and/or proof of proficiency.

      • The high school diploma was obtained at a school located in an EU/EEA member state, Switzerland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the USA, Australia, New Zealand or Canada.
    • IB Diploma with English as a school subject.
    • Supplementary examination certificate from a preparatory course at an Austrian university confirming that the supplementary English examination has been successfully passed.

Would you like to study at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences but did not complete your school or university education in Austria? Then there are a few things you need to bear in mind:

    • We only accept documents that have been issued in German, English, or two languages (national language + German or English).
    • The translation must be carried out by a sworn and court-certified translator.
    • Here you will find the current overview of whether you need full diplomatic legalization or an apostille, or whether the documents are exempt from legalization.
    • The following documents must be legalized and/or translated:
      • Bachelor's degree: All pages of the high school diploma and, if applicable, transcript of records/collective certificates/diplomas (if you have already studied)
      • Master's degree: Degree certificate, transcript of records and/or diploma supplement
    • The full diplomatic legalization/apostille must be carried out before the translation. Afterwards, the original is translated and then the translation is inseparably attached to the original document. This attachment must not be removed, as this would invalidate the translation.

PLEASE NOTE: Applicants whose documents require full diplomatic legalization will only be processed if this legalization is already available at the time of application. Only legalization by the Austrian representative authority will be accepted. This means that the school/degree program must already have been completed.

If only an apostille is required or legalization of documents is exempted, you can apply if you are still in your final year of school or university.

The tuition fee for EU and EEA citizens as well as Swiss nationals is € 363.36 per semester.

Starting in the winter semester of 2026, students from third countries (non-EU/EEA countries) will be charged a tuition fee of € 500 per semester. Students who fall under the “Personengruppenverordnung” (Regulation on Groups of Persons) or who have a residence permit other than a “Aufenhaltsbewilligung – Student” (residence permit – student) are exempted from this regulation.

Who is affected by the “Regulation on Groups of Persons”?

    • Persons with a residence permit under the Asylum Act
    • Persons working in the diplomatic service, as well as their spouses and children
    • Persons whose main residence has been in Austria for the last 5 years prior to their first admission to study
    • Holders of school-leaving certificates from Austrian schools abroad
    • Foreign journalists accredited in Austria, as well as their spouses and children
    • Persons who receive a scholarship for their intended studies on the basis of provisions of international treaties or in the same amount from funds of an Austrian regional authority, which, in accordance with the financial regulations of this regional authority, are expressly to be used for scholarships
    • Furthermore, all students must pay the legally prescribed Austrian Student Union fee per semester.

Just a few steps and you'll be on your way to your place at university!

    • Register at https://bewerbung.cuas.at/en
    • Select your courses – you can choose a maximum of two courses.
    • Prepare your documents, upload them to the application portal, and submit your application.
    • Take part in the admission procedure.

Details and further tips on applying can be found in our application guidelines and video tutorial.

Please note the application deadlines – you can find these in the checkbox for the respective degree program!

For applicants from countries where documents need full diplomatic legalization only application period I from November 1 to March 15 is open. The documents must be submitted fully legalized. This means that the school/degree program must be completed at the time of application!

For applicants from third countries where documents need an Apostille also period II from March 16 to May 15 is open, provided that the application period for the respective program is still open. Nevertheless, we recommend applying within the first period due to visa processing, especially from countries in Africa and Asia.

Are you already living in Austria and do your documents require an apostille or full diplomatic legalization? You can apply at any time during the application periods for the degree program.

In order to begin a bachelor's degree program, you need a general university entrance qualification, i.e., an Austrian Matura or an equivalent qualification (see Sections 4 and 5 of the Fachhochschulgesetz [University of Applied Sciences Act]). If you did not obtain your Matura in Austria or at an Austrian school abroad, we will check its equivalence as soon as you have submitted your online application.

According to § 64 (2) UG, degrees can be classified as equivalent if:

    1. The duration of education is at least 12 years.
    2. The degree certificate grants unrestricted access to higher education in the country of origin.
    3. General education subjects predominate (at least 60%). As a rough formula, the following six subjects must have been successfully completed in the last 3 school years:
      • Two languages
      • History, geography, or economics
      • Mathematics
      • Biology, physics, or chemistry
      • One general education subject of your choice

Please note that you must demonstrate English language skills at level B2 in all bachelor's programs (except Disability & Diversity Studies) in order to be admitted to the program. For German-language programs, language skills in German at level B2 or C1 must also be demonstrated.

    Country-specific Information

The admission requirement is met if you have completed at least 12 years of schooling and the university entrance qualification in your country of origin grants you unrestricted access to universities. If you are required to take entrance exams in your home country, these must also be submitted to us (e.g., Greece, Spain).

A bachelor's degree worth 180 ECTS credits from a recognized state university always fulfills the admission requirements for a bachelor's program.

Six (maximum 7) subjects must be chosen from the following 6 groups
Group 1 Studies in Language and Literature (language at native speaker level)
Group 2 Language Acquisition (second or foreign language)
    Group 3 Individuals and Societies
    Group 4 Sciences
    Group 5 Mathematics
    Group 6 The Arts

A full IB Diploma consists of:

    • languages (Group 1&2 or both from Group 1)
    • One subject each from Groups 3, 4, and 5
    • One subject from Group 6 or additionally from Groups 1 to 5
    • Extended essay
    • Theory of Knowledge
    • CAS activities

At least three of the six subjects must have been completed at HL. These three subjects must have a total score of 12, with no grade below 3. The sum of the individual grades must be at least 24 points.

The German Fachhochschulreife does not grant direct access to universities in Austria. It is recognized as a vocational qualification, which means that you will have to take additional exams. You can find more details on our website for the study qualification course.

The Swiss Maturität qualification grants direct access to higher education in Austria, while the Berufsmaturität qualification does not. We therefore recommend that applicants with the Swiss Berufsmaturität qualification take the Passerelle supplementary examination. If you have relevant professional experience, you should check whether it is possible to take additional examinations as part of the study qualification course.

If school education only comprises 11 years, two supplementary examinations must be taken. The subjects are determined as part of the admission procedure. The missing school year can also be compensated for by a year of study at a recognized state university.

    GCE / A Level

    • Four independent, general education subjects must be completed with at least grades A*, A, B, or C (or grades 9–4). The following subjects must be included:
