The Austrian UNESCO Ambassador Claudia Reinprecht and the Austrian UNESCO Secretary General Patrizia Jankovic, among others, personally welcome the students of the Master's programme "Management of Conservation Areas" at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences.

After an official kick-off, the students from Austria, Argentina, Great Britain, Ukraine, the United States and Slovenia start their first semester. In a three-week intensive programme, international teachers design a variety of formats as well as excursions.

Among others, Tobias Salathe from the Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention, Frank Vassen from the DG Environment of the European Commission or Andrej Sovinc from the IUCN/WCPA introduce current discourses and developments in the management of conservation areas. Excursions take participants to the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Salzburger Lungau & Carinthian Nockberge and the Hohe Tauern National Park.

Here there is not only the opportunity for fascinating nature experiences but also diverse encounters with the management of the areas, stakeholders and local people. Different perspectives, conflicts, problems and exemplary solutions offer students interesting and multi-layered opportunities for discussion and learning.
