FH Course: Manager in the Health & Social Sector

The population development, the rapid progress in medicine, care and technology, the increasing quality awareness in hospitals and care facilities, the growing cost pressure and last but not least the increasing demands of patients and clients require highly qualified, competent managers and home and care service managers.

Employees of O.ö. Nursing homes and old people's homes should be able to fulfill the personal and professional requirements of the home management according to § 12 of the Oö. Alten- und Pflegheimverordnung LGBl.Nr. 29/1996 competently.

In the FH course, the participants acquire extensive organizational and business management knowledge as well as knowledge about companies, old people's services, living and life environments and employee management in order to be able to manage a home.

The management tasks of a nursing service manager are anchored in the GuKG and include responsibility for the quality of care and the organization of the nursing measures in the corresponding facility. The participants acquire extensive knowledge about nursing and health care structures, public health, quality and project management, but also business management knowledge and skills.

Aim & content

This UAS course offers employees from the Gesundheits- und Pflegebereich  practice-relevant further training in order to be best equipped for the complex requirements in the management area both in the home management and in the nursing service management.

The function of the home or nursing service management also requires a variety of social skills, therefore communicative and leadership skills are trained. The aim is to impart competencies that enable graduates to assume managerial functions within the meaning of § 17 para. 6 GuKG and § 11 para. 1 Oö. HVO.

    At the center of the training are the teaching of leadership skills and social-communicative competencies as well as the teaching of professional competencies in the corresponding disciplines such as health and nursing sciences.

    A final thesis must be written as part of the continuing education course. The continuing education course is concluded with a final examination by a board of examiners.

    Oranization & dates

    The FH course is organized in cooperation with the Altenbetreuungsschule des Landes Oberösterreich.

    The FH course comprises 4 semesters and is organized on a part-time basis. The attendance phases take place from Thursday to Saturday at the Altenbetreuungsschule des Landes Oberösterreich, Petrinumstraße 12/2, A-4040 Linz.

    Entrance requirements:

    Potential participants are employees from the health and social sector who hold or aspire to hold a position as home or care manager and meet the following requirements:

    • DGKP (for Akad. health and care manager*in)
    • current employment in the health and care sector
    • basic computer skills (Office etc.)
