About the study

Four study courses with different focuses are embedded in the program: Geoinformation and Environment, Medical Technology, Network and Communication Technology, and the completely new orientation towards multimediatechnology. In addition to a stronger, well-founded basic IT knowledge, the focus on the branches of study will gradually increase in the course of the course.

You can study the course full-time or part-time and attend the basic IT subjects at both campuses in Klagenfurt and Villach - you decide before the 1st semester which location is more advantageous for you. Starting in the third semester, you will choose from the elective module "Digitization" and deal with the highly topical subjects of Internet of Things, Mobile Systems Development or Data Science.

ADVANTAGES

  • Courses on both campuses
  • Full-time and part-time
  • Wide-ranging training
  • Current topics in the elective module
  • Use of comprehensive lecture hall and laboratory infrastructure

Elective modules

Due to the almost everywhere available Internet, the desire and the requirement to integrate sensors and sensor systems for the acquisition of measured values into the Internet community is growing. Measured values are no longer classically generated and displayed locally, but stored on servers in the Internet as a data package. One now speaks of machine-to-machine communication, M2M. The data packets are then collected and processed. This process takes place in industry, health care, households - in fact in every sector. The requirements for infrastructure and data security are necessarily increasing.

In the elective module "IoT" these mentioned focal points are analysed and worked out together with students, so that they are able to design, build and verify such contemporary requirements.

Whether mobile communication in everyday life and at work, intelligent use of transport or the control of our homes - we are networked and on the move at the same time. Mobility can increase personal freedom, enhance quality of life and also open up career prospects. In the Mobile Systems Development major, students learn about the latest developments in the field of mobile technologies. In addition to mobile applications (apps), topics such as middleware, architecture and management of mobile systems, digital signal processing, processing of sensor and localization data (GPS, Galileo) and interface design are covered.

Data science is generally understood as the extraction of knowledge from data. Nowadays we have enormous amounts of data at our disposal from which information must be generated and recommendations for action derived. In addition to expert knowledge about suitable analysis tools, coordination and communication skills are important factors for successful work with large amounts of data. In the elective module, students learn basic concepts and application areas from the fields of artificial intelligence, statistics in modern data analysis, and data visualization, and can make well-founded assessments of data quality.
