"The increase of extreme weather events, as well as related flooding are a serious problem for the future water management in the Karawanken UNESCO Global Geopark!"

In May 2021, two online stakeholder workshops were held in the context of the INTERREG V-A Slovenia-Austria projectKaraWAT. On both the Austrian and Slovenian sides, local and regional stakeholders, as well as regional representatives and experts from the field, discussed the challenges of water management in the municipalities of the Karawanken UNESCO Global Geopark. Prior to the workshops, an online survey was conducted to identify the most important water management issues in the study area. Four guiding questions for the workshop were derived from the results of the survey:

- What measures can the Geopark take to protect water resources from the impacts of climate change?

- What measures can the Geopark take to protect the quality and quantity of drinking water?

- What are the main land use and land use planning issues that should be considered?

- What is missing for successful cooperation between local, national and transboundary stakeholders?
