• In 2020, the UNESCO-Chair "Management of Conservation Areas" was established at our university. Once a week the chair invites to digital lunch meetings (“Brownbag Sessions”) in which different representatives of grassroot initiatives, international organizations, and the scholarly world as well give a short impulse on nature conservation in the 21st century. www.cuas.at/unesco-chair
  • In addition to the Master certificate course "Management of Conservation Areas" (part of the World Bank’s scholarship program), CUAS Center for Further Education offers a certificate course to become a Nature Conservation Engineer.
  • Several research projects put priority on biodiversity. To give an example, the COIN project BioMONITec focuses on the comprehensive screening of classic and novel biodiversity technologies and tools that are already available or under development. In the project CoMON (Collaborative Monitoring for Sustainable Development), CUAS will work together with scientists from Bahir Dar University (BDU, Ethiopia) to explore methods and possibilities for collaborative monitoring of the biodiversity of Lake Tana (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Ethiopia).
  • The project "Sience_Link Nockberge" provides a platform for final theses in co-operation with the UNESCO biosphere park Nockberge. For more information please see www.biosphaerenparknockberge.at/science_link-nockberge/
  • In future, the Metschacher Moos will be available to our students as an open-air laboratory in the field of biodiversity and species protection. In October 2023, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences and the Privatstiftung Kärntner Sparkasse. https://www.kleinezeitung.at/kaernten/6329982/Forschungszentrum-geplant_Kaerntner-Moos-wird-zum-Freiluftlabor
  • In the future, CUAS would like to create more spaces on its campuses that support biodiversity.
  • In addition, new study degree programs that focus on the environment will be created.
