International Business Management

On October 8th, 2015, Dr. Finbarr Bradley gave a guest lecture on “Developing Innovative and Sustainable Communities” for the third semester students of the International Business Management master´s program. Dr. Bradley teaches courses of Green Business and Green Venture Finance at the Smurfit Graduate Business School, University College Dublin (Ireland).

In his lecture, Dr. Bradley explained a paradigm shift from a “techno-economic paradigm” which has been about “making stuff” to a “regenerative paradigm” which focuses on “making sense.” At its core, it is about making people´s lives better rather than just producing more.

The creation of shared and “deeper” value which is intrinsically linked with the regenerative paradigm also requires a new way of looking at companies as learning communities, as innovative places where art, craft and science come together in an integrative way.

The students also learned from two case studies of Irish companies and had the chance to discuss the effects of companies that are learning communities on sustainable development with Éamonn Ó Neachtain, Regional Manager at Údarás na Gaeltachta in Western Ireland via video telephony.
