oikos is an international organization that aims to forster the integration of sustainability issues in research and teaching at management and economics faculties. In its yearly case writing competition oikos awards case studies that can be used in universities to learn about doing business responsibly and sustainably.
The case study of CUAS which extensively describes the development and business philosophy of SONNENTOR convinced the members of the international jury and achieved the first place ahead of case studies of other worldwide renowned universities such as Università Bocconi (Italy) or INSEAD (France). “The case shows that it is possible to have a different concept for business, caring for nature and humans, but having profits at the same time,” writes one member of the jury as one reason for the award. Johannes Gutmann is entirely happy about so much recognition and appreciation „At the beginning of SONNENTOR I was known as a weird guy [“Spinner” in German], today I am a winner!” Author Dietmar Sternad – who has also just won the Austrian State Prize for Teaching Excellence „Ars Docendi“ – adds: „I am very happy about this international recognition, because it confirms how much business students can learn from SONNENTOR. There are many companies who talk about sustainability and responsibility. Johannes Gutmann and his team are just living it, thus providing us with a great example how business that puts human beings in the main focus can work. I have already tried out the case study with students in Austria and Italy, and have rarely received such positive feedback on a course unit before.”
