Based on the anatomical-physiological understanding, the students are aware of the significance of pathology for the diagnosis of diseases and have acquired a basic understanding of the microscopic anatomy. They can explain the specific relationship between morphological organ architecture and function, explain the principles of tissue structure and are able to describe the morphological structure of the most important organs microscopically. Furthermore, they can establish a connection between regular anatomical structures and pathological changes. Based on the knowledge of the nomenclatures of diagnostic findings and malignancy criteria, the students can describe suitable screening methods, can detect physiological, benign and malignant microscopic cell images, and understand the importance of cell typing, especially in differential diagnostics.

Basics of anatomy and physiology

  • Microscopic anatomy and histology of selected organs (stomach, intestine, liver, pancreas, heart, arteries, veins, lung, brain, kidney, ovary, tube, uterus, cervix, testes and epididymis, prostate, thyroid)
  • Neoplasia (benign changes, malignancy criteria)
  • Gynecological cytodiagnostics (dysplasia, malignant cell images, nomenclatures)
  • Extragenital cytology, particularly the respiratory tract, urinary tract, CNS, serous cavities, lymphnodes and others
