On successful completion of the course, students:

  • Can discuss the topics of general business administration. (central functional areas of business administration)
  • Can recognize and understand overall business management contexts
  • Can understand, explain and apply the most common methods and tools in the different functional areas of general business administration
  • Can understand central business interrelationships by means of a business management game
  • Can recognize the business value chain

The course will cover the following topics/content:

  • Introduction to Management (Managers in the workplace, decision making)
  • Basiscs of Managing in today`s workspace (Global Management, Managing a diverse workforce, socially-consious Management, Managing change)
  • Planning (Planning & goal-setting, strategic planning)
  • Human Resources (introduction to Human Resources, Human Resource Planning, recruitment, employee training, compensation and benefits, external factors)
  • Organizing (Organization design, chain of command, span of control, centralization vs. decentralization, formalization, size and structure, functional structure, divisional structure, matrix structures)
  • Supply - management (abc-analysis, xyz-analysis, supply chain management)
  • Production Management, production planning
  • Leading (interpersonal and organizational communication, organizational behaviour, leadership theories, motivational theories, Maslow, Herzberg, Taylor, Equity theory,...)
  • Financing the corporation (internal financing vs. External financing), Investment (company valuattion, debt vs. Equity capital); Introduction to Controlling
  • Financial Reporting (Balance sheet, Cash Flow statement, Income Statement; local vs. international accounting, legal requirements)
  • Introduction to Marketing (Marketing Mix, 4P: price, product, promotion, place)
  • Constitutive decisions (legal form of company, partnerships vs. Corporations); the role of the board of directors and the supervisory board; location of headquarter
