Students know the definitions and methods of health technology assessment. They are able to explain the meaning of health technology assessment in context as well as to assess its impact.

Module: Health Sciences (Balancing Students' Knowledge)

Clarifying and defining basic health technology assessments (HTA) terms
Importance of HTA as basis for evidence based decisions in healthcare (on national ? international level)
Basic principles of HTA
Prioritisation of available evaluation technologies
Analysing status of technology
Basics in technology assessment methods (safety, impact, efficiency, ethical, social-cultural and legal aspects of medical technologies)
Linking acquired knowledge and skills of epidemiology, health economics and research design by carrying out a case study on mass screening (e.g. mammary carcinoma, colon cancer and cervical carcinoma)
