The students get an overview of light metals and their use in lightweight construction. Explanation of the key manufacturing technologies for light metals production technology in order correctly design the construction of light metal components.

Aluminum, magnesium, titanium, MMC, metal foams / structure (crystal structure), recovery, recycling / properties of the pure metals, alloy systems / alloying elements and their effects / dealing with the most important phase diagrams / influence of the microstructure on the properties, heat treatment / comparison of the materials on the basis of application examples (characteristics, chem. properties, density, temperature resistance, ...) / application possibilities and limits of use of the light metals
-Archetypes: the casting of Al and Mg alloys various casting processes with application example, sand casting, permanent mold casting, die casting, low pressure casting, semisolid casting, casting defects mold filling and solidification dealing with alloy melting, quality control
-Forming: forming processes: rolling, extrusion, extrusion, deep drawing hot and cold forming, massive forming and metal stamping influence of the lattice structure and the structure (WBH-state) on deformation behavior of light metals
-Separating: dealing with Al and Mg turnings, cutting materials for light metals
-Aluminum alloys: Mechanism of precipitation hardening , alloy systems with major excretion sequences, Error in WBH, loss of strength due to increased temperatures
-Heat treatment
-Manufacturing capabilities for MMC and metal foams
