Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
explain the basic institutional framework of public finance in Austria.
describe various theories, understand public debt as well as basic elements of public finance taxation.
discuss the financial policy based on the "theory of multiple budgets" (Musgrave).
Introduction to Public Finance
The course "Public Finances in Austria" deals with the question of how public finance in Austria is structured. The focus is on (1) the public debt and the Stability Pact and (2) selected elements of the Austrian tax system and tax policy. Furthermore, (3) basic principles of financial condition and the financial compensation will be addressed.
A reading list will be provided by the lecturer.
