Students acquire competences in collecting data, exploration and assessment in and for social environment(s). Students are able to transform subjective every day observations to intersubjective comprehensible structure descriptions. The knowledge and plans acquired in the first semester are realised in the field (on the object). In addition to the "classical" ways of observation and communication, students know about the survey techniques and analysis requests of the data sources for the relevant questions. Students can conduct expert communication and focus groups in a confident way. Students can keep data production and evaluation effort in balance. Collection and evaluation of students' own data has to be used for a revised view on the object. The differentiated forms of exploration and reporting in the sense of Citizen Science are known.

The focus is on the preparation of protocols from observations and expert interviews as well as finding and the use of supplementary data sources. Research plans from the first semester are therefore realised in the field. Exercises in "classical" observation processes and communication techniques are equally relevant as necessary data overviews about community data or organisational backgrounds. Assessments are continually reflected in the plenary assembly and summarised in provisional results (building of working hypotheses). They should guarantee a revised view on the object. Questions from the first semester should be systematically developed to empirically saturated ones. In addition, they are examined for their usability for participative approaches. At the end of the semester scales of interventions and their evaluation in the field are illustrated in a differentiated way. The appropriateness and possibilities of community-based research (CBR); participatory rural appraisal (PRA) etc. are discussed on the basis of individual field experiences.
Basic texts and example studies have to be up to date and therefore are provided at the beginning of the course.
