The student should get a clearly gist of the Theory of Maxwell's Equations. A physical interpretation of such complex terms as: gradient, divergence and rotor is given. The course serves as a basis for the courses: Numerical methods, PCB-Simulation and RF-Measurement Techniques.

The course starts with a refreshment of vector calculus and vector analysis in tree-dimensional coordinate systems (cartesian, spherical and cylindrical). Next, electrostatic fields in free space and in material space will be considered. The concepts of Coulomb's Law and Gauss's Law will be discussed. Some relevant electrostatic boundary value problems are presented. It follows a discussion of magnetostatic fields. The concepts of Biot-Savart's Law and Ampere's Law will be discussed. A overview is given, how the Maxwell's equations combine all these Laws to a closed theory.
