Developing the Social
Societal change demands scientifically sound answers to current topics in society and in social politics. Some such topics are demographic developments, evaluation of social institutions, violence, immigration processes and social work in a transnational context, but also the tasks and challenges of social work in primary and secondary schools. The scientific staff at the school of social work is involved in research and development projects. Generally, the projects are third-party financed and develop fundamental analyses and future-oriented action plans in cooperation with regional statutory offices or private institutions.
DESA - English-German Special-purpose Dictionary for Social Work
DESA is an English-German electronic, bidirectional dictionary for social work that provides multidimensional translations of technical terms of social work and its related disciplines on the basis of authentic professional texts. Because of its electronic format, DESA is highly adaptable from word lists to corpus work. Students and teachers produce the entries in cooperation with practitioners.

The project "Summer Academy for Senior Citizens" aims at developing a curriculum for senior citizens (60 plus) in a transnational context. Partners in the two-year cooperation project, funded by the GRUNDTVIG programme of the European Union, are institutions from Germany, Italy and Austria.
Research in Africa - Social Security for the Elderly

The project, which is financed by the Austrian Commission for Development Studies at the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research, deals with issues of social security in senior age. As part of the school’s activities in Africa, an excursion to the West Sahara was undertaken in February 2009 in order to gain an insight into the living conditions of the Sahauris.
