Analysis, Modelling & Visualization of Geographic Information
Spatial Information Processing focuses on applications and systems development under consideration of modern technologies. Research core competencies at the School of Geoinformation comprise the following areas:
- Capture, Modeling, Analysis and Visualization of Spatial Information and Processes
- Management of Innovation and Technologies in Geoinformation
Our projects can be divided into three main research areas:
- Location Based Systems Solutions
- Geoinformation and Decision Support
- Innovation- and Technology Management
Location Based Systems Solutions
This R&D area focuses on location based information with the use of methods and technologies from
- Geoinformatics
- Web Science and
- Mobile Technologies
Our R&D activities are carried out with our partners in diverse application areas such as environment, education, privacy & security. Special solutions from these application areas are, e.g., Sensor Planning, Web Mapping, Game-Based Learning, Location-based Risk Monitoring, Privacy Management and Crime Analysis.
Geoinformation and Decision Support
Combining spatial information and mathematical methods, complex “What-if scenarios” are developed for various application areas within this research area. (e.g., Risk Management of Natural Hazards, Location Planning, Energy Efficiency, Environmental Monitoring). Our competences include:
- Conceptional Data- and Process Modelling
- Geodata Management
- Spatial Analysis and Cartographic Visualization
- Geosimulation
- Spatial Decision Support Systems
Innovation- and Technology Management
Technology Management comprises the introduction and implementation of methods for the selection, development and implementation of new technologies of Geoinformation. From this technological basis, new GIS-Applications and Systems are developed under consideration of market trends and customer requirements. Innovative methods of solution in the area of technology transfer strengthen the collaboration with companies and NPO’s on the one hand and further the development of spin-offs on the other. In this area our research focuses on:
- Geomarketing and
- Business Intelligence
