Light Weight Engineering
Academic degree: MSc (Master of Science in Engineering)
4 semesters
ECTS points: 120
limited study places
full time
tuition fee: € 363.36 per semester
location: Villach
Language of instruction: German
Curriculum
Students learn how to use modern light weight materials such as aluminium and magnesium alloys as well as high strength steels and carbon fibre reinforced plastics. In the subjects of engineering and design students learn to engineer light weight structures under the constraint of structural integrity and economical factors and using advanced design methods based on bionic principles. Therefore an important part of the programme will be the use of Finite Element Modelling for the development of prototypes subjected to severe loading conditions including dynamic and cyclic multiaxial stresses and strains. To complete the training students will develop validation test rigs such as crash tests, fatigue tests, corrosion tests and creep tests.
The focus of the Master´s programme Light Weight Engineering is on the education and training of mechanical engineers which enable them to design complex mechanical structures, to analyze and to simulate their behaviour in order to develop innovative prototypes and to test them under real technical conditions.
