Research & Development at CUAS
Besides education, research and development form the second integral pillar of academic activity. Universities of Applied Sciences focus their work in particular on the area of applied research and development. Research activities enhance the quality of teaching to a high degree by making important current and innovative content available for the education of the students.
However, research also functions as a profile-shaping measure for each university. Through developing specific expertise and appropriate infrastructure, universities may gain high recognition in society and equally can generate economic benefit. Resulting overall perception determines the “standing” of a university and thereby influences the stream of students and financial resources towards the university.
It is thus not only a singular aim of the University Development Plan from 2007 but also a core theme of the R&D Strategy from 2009 to define the goals of R&D activities according to this aspect and to make them transparent. Besides a number of already well-established core research themes providing very positive feedback from the research community and the economy, new promising core themes have been defined which soon will support our university in its eagerness to shape its profile. The new core themes will have an interdisciplinary character and as such will be better able to connect to and utilize the existing variety of R&D potential at the Carinthian University of Applied Sciences (CUAS).
The following pages will provide you with an overview of R&D activities and core themes at CUAS. May they inspire you to utilize the amalgamated force of existing competencies also for the solution of your challenges and eventual problems.
