Study or work abroad
1) Study abroad semester
Erasmus Program
EuRopean Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students – this major mobility program allows you to spend 3-12 months at one of the higher education institutions within the European Union, as well as Croatia, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, and Turkey. The big advantage of the program is that the mobile students - so called “Outgoings” do not have to pay fees at the partner university and receive a scholarship from € 298.00 to € 395.00 (depending on the country they are going to visit) to cover the higher living expenses abroad.
Each student of CUAS is welcome to take part in this program. Have a look at the list of our partners and decide where you would like to spend your study abroad semester. Discuss this option with the international coordinator of your School, fill out the forms and forward it to the International Office.
Deadlines for application
October 30 (for the spring semester)
April 30 (for the fall semester)
(March 31 for the School of Management)
Joint Study
The students of CUAS also have the possibility to spend their study abroad semester at one of our partner universities outside Europe. In this case they do not receive the Erasmus scholarship but have to organize the financial support by themselves. The international coordinator has to agree to this option. The application procedure is the same as for the Erasmus study abroad semester.
Freemover
The last option for the students is to spend the study abroad semester at any of the universities abroad even though there is no bilateral agreement with CUAS. In this case students have to organize their stay by themselves. In most of the cases they also have to pay tuition fees at both CUAS and the host university. The international coordinator has to agree to this option; the international office has to be informed.
Marshall Plan Foundation
The Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation grants scholarships for research projects of students and graduates enrolled at FH Kärnten/ Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) at U.S. American Universities which last for at least 3 months and maximum 12 months. The scholarship depends on the length of the project and research subject and can vary from € 3,000 to € 10,000. The research placement must take place in the academic year 2010/11 (summer holidays’11 can be included).
The U.S.-American host university does not have to be a partner institution of FH Kärnten/ Carinthia University of Applied Sciences; students are responsible for the organization of their acceptance at the host university, CUAS International Office as well as the international coordinator of the degree program will try to support the student.
There are two deadlines for the scholarship 1. April and 1 November. By that time you should have contacted CUAS International Office and send them your application form. The final decision will be made by the Marshall Plan Foundation in respectively May and December each year.

Additionally, they can have traveling expenses refunded.

3) Language courses with Erasmus
Students going abroad within the framework of the Erasmus program have the possibility to attend an ERASMUS Intensive Language Courses (EILC) in the host country. This course is only available for certain languages (such as Slovenian, Swedish) and take place immediately before the study abroad semester. For the duration of such a language course students also receive the Erasmus scholarship.
4) Financial support for going abroad
Students receiving no financial support can apply for “Studiengangsförderung” (grant) at their School at CUAS. In order to apply one has to fill in the form and contact the international coordinator.
We suggest also using the database of the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Eduction and Research www.grants.at where thousands of scholarships for study abroad, doing research abroad, summer schools and language courses are listed.
